A lot has been going on at camp since we said goodbye to our first session friends on Visiting Day! Second Session Changeover Day started off with a late wake-up and breakfast followed by our Micah Book of Records.  This unique tradition for full session campers is a day for breaking or setting silly records around camp. It was both hysterical and inspiring to witness some of the ideas our campers came up with – proving once again how creative and talented they are! (Picture campers holding hands without letting go and trying to eat their meals, trying to speak solely in Spanish for hours on end, sharing a tutu over your regular clothes with a buddy and choosing to be “stuck” together for the whole day, most consecutive times up the warped wall at The Micah Ninja Warrior Course, and fastest time up to the summit of Baldpate Mountain)

This past Monday, we welcomed all of our second session campers to Micah.  After hopping off the buses, new campers were welcomed into the Dining Hall amidst thunderous cheering, chanting, and clapping and quickly brought over to meet their new bunkmates. After initial introductions, everyone went back to their bunks to get to know each other a little better. The entire Micah community reconvened to enjoy a great dinner together followed by our Unit and Team Leaders introducing themselves with silly songs and all of the counselors sharing their unit’s spirit with a cheer.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, campers went around by bunks to get the lay of the land and a firsthand look at all the exciting opportunities Micah has to offer before finalizing their new activity schedules.  After participating in unique evening activities, ranging from making “goop” (an interesting scientific substance that is neither a liquid or a solid) to dancing the night away at a USA themed dance party, campers cozied up in bed and dreamed of what the next day’s first full day of activities held for them!

Camp was abuzz with activity on Thursday as all campers began their individualized schedules. That night, campers participated in Unit Activities and G8 got to sleep out at The Ladder (our own Micah campsite)! The next morning, we said goodbye to our oldest campers, G14 and B15, who spent the day at Seeds of Peace (seedsofpeace.org) participating in sports and learning about what this amazing organization does. The rest of camp enjoyed their Friday activities and looked forward to our weekly Erev Shabbat service.

On Friday night, Rabbi Lipof led a peaceful and reflective service…with a fair share of excitement, dancing, and fun! She told us all a story about remembering to sometimes stop, take a breath, relax, and breathe in Shabbat. Every camper received a small gift for them to remember this important message – their own small sand timer!

Saturday morning brought with it buffet breakfast and late sleep for our older campers. After our musical Boker Tov time in the chapel to learn a bit more about this week’s Torah portion, campers spent the rest of the day bettering themselves or the community at Tikkuna Matata, getting to know their Camp Sisters and Spazzaweewee Brothers a bit better, participating in unit activities, and enjoying some extra free time and bunk time. We’re all looking forward to the weekly cookout dinner, campfire, and Havdalah to end Shabbat this week!
