Bunk Reads Review – by Caro in G9

Posted by on June 29, 2016

This summer, Camp Micah is proud to be part of Bunk Reads, a book discovery program supporting campers’ year-round independent reading. We’re excited to share our first book review from Caro L. in G9!

“I read Camp Rolling Hills by Stacy Davidowitz. I really liked this book for many reasons. One of the two major ones is the fact that the camp was really similar to Micah. The second is that the two main characters, Bobby (Smelly) and Stephanie (Slimey), both have family problems. A lot of authors have all of their characters be perfect. Perfect looks, perfect grades, perfect families. I really like the change. I would definitely recommend this book.”

Campers keep coming into the office to check out books that they’ve chosen from our Rec Room library! We look forward to sharing more book reviews throughout the summer!

Welcome, “The Giant!”

Posted by on June 29, 2016

As a special treat after lunch today, campers were invited to view part of a recent AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR episode highlighting our very own Micah Ninja Warrior: Jon “The Giant.” You could probably hear the explosive cheers from the Dining Hall as Jon rang the buzzer after climbing to the top of the Warped Wall in record time.  Jon was gracious enough to field questions after giving campers a motivational speech about the importance of hard work, practice, and good sportsmanship. Don’t be surprised if your camper comes home and wants to try out for next season! Everyone will certainly be getting good practice on our own course this summer.

Tonight was bunk night and campers participated in a wide range of activities all around camp with their bunkmates and counselors. Everyone is tucked in for the night and looking forward to tomorrow’s Trip Day!

And Away They Go!

It’s been a whirlwind of fun here at Micah since the moment the kids stepped off the buses and settled into their summer home. During the first night of camp, our Unit Leaders and Team Leaders were introduced with silly songs before all the counselors came up to show each unit’s spirit with a cheer. After B15 and G14 (our oldest campers) kicked off the summer by singing “The Micah Song,” all campers headed back to their bunks to get to know each other better.

The next morning, campers traveled around camp by bunk as they got to know the lay of the land. It turns out that the new Micah Ninja Warrior Course is all the rage around here. Kids were also so excited to test out our new Tumbl Trak at gymnastics and attempt to kick a field goal through our new uprights. Play auditions went “swimmingly” and the cast of The Little Mermaid has finally been set.

Our first Shabbat service on Friday night took place in our gorgeous outdoor chapel as the sun fell behind the tree line and the lake sparkled. On Saturday morning, we all enjoyed a special buffet breakfast, Critter & Prowler Field Day Fun, morning blessings in the Chapel, Tikkuna Matata activities (our time to make the world a better place), and got the chance to meet their Camp Sisters and Spazzaweewee Brothers. Cookout, campfire, and Havdalah brought our first Shabbat to an end.

With the start of individual schedules this week, camp is abuzz and everyone is looking forward to an amazing week ahead.

Good afternoon from downtown Bridgton and Sebago!

IMG_0047Meryl and Alex coming at you from our temporary office, also known as the dining hall. We’re psyched to jet off to Poland and our final destination- Israel! We’ve been hard at work going over forms, itineraries, schedules, more forms, and can not wait for the trip to finally begin!

Of course, don’t hesitate to get in touch with final questions or concerns. Feel free to email us or call the Camp Micah main line; Meryl is finishing up at school next week, but Mike Churwin and Alex will be here if you need us. We cannot wait to see you all next Sunday at Terminal E for British Airways (3:00 P.M. SHARP!).

All the best, next month in Jerusalem!

It’s the time we’ve be waiting all year for here at Micah…our staff has arrived and another amazing summer is about to begin. After traveling from near and far, the 2016 staff kicked off their orientation with some introductions and games. Last night, we began our programming by teaching our staff about the Micah Philosophy. Just as we teach our campers the importance of living by our philosophy, it is engrained in our staff right off the bat.

Today, the staff participating in teambuilding, leadership, and policy programs – and, of course, fun! Our first pictures of the summer are now available for viewing and we’re sure you can see just how great it is being part of the Micah team! It was “Trip Day – At Night” this evening as two buses filled with enthusiastic staff headed off for a night of bowling and bonding. After a dose of healthy competition, we’ll get back to our training sessions tomorrow morning.

The 2016 staff will certainly be one to remember. We can’t wait to introduce them to all of the campers in just about a week from now!
